COVID-19 News

  • Last week, we shared that CDC recommends getting both your updated booster and flu shot and that it’s ok to get both at the same time. Vaccines.gov (English) and Vacunas.gov (Spanish) now have options for finding flu shots in addition to COVID-19 vaccines!

  • The expiration dates of many at-home COVID-19 tests have been extended. To find out if a particular brand of at-home tests has an extended expiration date, look for the test you have in this list and check the “Expiration Date” column. You will have to click another link to see the updated expiration dates for a particular brand of tests.

  • ICYMI – The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health recently offered a webinar about how to effectively engage the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (commonly known as OSHA). Check out the recordings in English and Spanish as well as English and Spanish materials related to how to file an OSHA complaint.

  • The CDC has asked partners to share rumors they’ve heard about COVID-19 or COVID-19 vaccination to combat misinformation. To share a rumor you’ve heard, you can report the rumor directly to the CDC at www.cdc.gov/report-rumors – just start the subject line with “Rumors.” The Spanish version of the form is not currently available, so please feel free to email katie@cdmigrante.org with any COVID-19 rumors you’d like to pass along to the CDC. Whether reporting to CDC or CDM, please include as much detail as possible, such as a description of the rumor, where you heard it, and how many times you have heard it.

North Carolina

  • New CDC data shows that STI rates climbed sharply in 2020 and continued to climb in 2021. North Carolina moved from being ranked 6th to 5th among U.S. states for highest per capita chlamydia rates. Healthcare providers and advocates suggest that cases are likely underrepresented, as many resources including testing were shifted to the COVID-19 response. North Carolina local health departments offer free STI testing, so contact your local health department for additional information on testing availability.

  • The North Carolina Office of Rural Health (NC ORH) would like to better understand the current workforce of community health workers (CHWs) in the state. If your organization employs community health workers, please complete this survey before this Saturday, October 1, to support the development of a community health worker network.
