We are proud to share with you a video that reflects all the work and impact of the first year of the Protein Processing Worker Project (PPP). We want to thank all our partners for these two years of achievements.

COVID-19 News
  • Alianza Nacional de Campesinas along with 5 partner organizations, including our PPP partner MCN, received $48.2 million as a grant to provide $600, one-time relief payments to 64,000 farm and meatpacking workers who incurred pandemic-related health and safety costs. Congrats to Alianza Nacional de Campesinas, MCN, and all the other organizations who will be working to provide this critical and deserved relief to workers.
  • A recent study conducted in 48 languages and 84 countries demonstrated that COVID-19 messaging that utilizes loss framing raises anxiety and does NOT change attitudes or  behaviors. An example of loss framing would be “If you don’t get vaccinated, you could die,” whereas a similar message that focuses on gains would be, “Getting vaccinated could save your life or the life of someone you love.”
  • We keep mentioning that getting an updated COVID-19 booster AND a flu shot is the best way to stay healthy this fall and winter because it’s true! Check out these new CDC resources, available in Spanish and English, that you can customize and use to encourage others to get their annual flu vaccine and get their families vaccinated against the flu, too!
  • Experts suggest that a new wave of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations may be coming to the U.S. soon, as cases and hospitalizations have greatly  increased in Europe in the last few weeks. Fortunately, the surge in cases in Europe is largely fueled by Omicron subvariants, and the new, updated U.S. booster is designed to protect against some of those mutations. Staying up to date on vaccinations remains the best way to prevent illness, hospitalizations, and death.

  • Everyone knows someone who has put in extra effort during the pandemic to serve communities in need, and many of those who have served the community are volunteers. Maryland

  • Do you know a worker in Maryland who has spent unpaid time doing required work activities such as pre-shift temperature checks, transportation between job sites, etc.? The Public Justice Center is looking to speak to workers from protein processing plants, warehouses, or other places of employment who were not paid for but were required to participate in such activities, as they may have experienced wage theft.
