COVID-19 News

  • Two recent articles highlighted protein processing workers who are defending their rights to healthy and safe workplaces: Workers at a meat processing plant in Tennessee who were subject to an immigration raid and racially profiled will receive settlements from a class action lawsuit, and a poultry plant in Pennsylvania was found in contempt for failing to pay $162,359 related to OSHA citations for serious safety hazards. Visit Contratados.org to learn more about how workers can defend their rights to healthy and safe workplaces.

  • Did you know that only 8.4% of those 5 years of age and older in the U.S. have received an updated bivalent booster? While the CDC has not yet released county-level data on boosters, we’ve added a line at the top of each state level data section below with the bivalent booster rate for that state. You can also review national data on bivalent booster rates for different age, racial, and ethnic groups. These numbers are particularly concerning given that many people will be gathering for the upcoming holidays. For those planning to gather for Thanksgiving, consider getting your updated booster by this Thursday, November 10 (2 weeks before Thanksgiving Day) to be most protected in time for gathering with loved ones.
  • New data from Pfizer and BioNTech shows that their updated COVID-19 booster leads to much higher levels of antibodies that combat the Omicron variants BA.4 & BA.5 compared to the original COVID-19 vaccine. So get boosted!
We’ve got an update from Ricardo, CDM’s Digital Organizer: Last week, he shared his reasons for getting a booster. This week, join him as he finds out where to get his bivalent booster through vaccines.gov and then heads to his appointment!
