  • study published last month found that about 15% of those with previous COVID-19 infections experience continued symptoms of long COVID. Long COVID was found to be more common among women, and prevalence of long COVID also increased with age over 40. The good news is the long COVID risk diminished for those who had a completed primary series of vaccination prior to infection, so stay up to date with your COVID-19 vaccination!

  • Novavax recently shared new data that its new booster, which is designed to target the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, produces a strong immune response against the original strain of the coronavirus as well as omicron variants. While not yet approved for use in the U.S., Novavax may soon be able to provide another option for staying up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccination.

  • Sign up for a CDC Foundation webinar focused on how community-based organizations with effective and equitable COVID responses have found ways to sustain their work and how they have reshaped the future of public health. The webinar will take place at 3 PM ET this Thursday, November 17, and Spanish translation will be available.

  • The University of North Carolina is looking for a Language Access Coordinator for its Building Integrated Communities initiative. The Language Access Coordinator will help local governments in North Carolina to understand language access best practices and write and implement language access plans.

  • On Friday, Governor Carney extended Delaware’s Public Health Emergency for another 30 days, which will allow Delaware medical providers to continue COVID-19 vaccination and testing programs.

Maryland

  • Maryland’s open enrollment period for health insurance began on November 1 and will continue through January 15. Signing up for health insurance can be complicated, so you can direct community members to get in touch with an agent or navigator to assist with enrollment.

Virginia

  • Those living on Virginia’s Eastern Shore can get assistance with medical insurance enrollment by contacting their local community health center. Check out this Facebook post by Eastern Shore Rural Health Systems for more information, including phone numbers for health centers.
