COVID-19 News

  • COVID-19 cases are rising in Europe as the Omicron variant BA.2, which is more transmissible than the original omicron, spreads. Booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines remain effective at preventing infection, hospitalization, and death. The U.S., however, could see a more severe uptick in cases than in Europe in the coming weeks given that only 36% of U.S. adults have received a third dose, compared to 82% of adults in the United Kingdom. To help guide your outreach efforts, we’ve added the percentage of vaccinated individuals who have received a booster dose to the data sections below.
  • Moderna recently asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to authorize a 4th dose of their COVID-19 vaccine for all adults, and Pfizer asked the FDA for approval for a fourth dose for people 65 years and older. In addition to the FDA, the CDC would also have to approve these requests.
  • Last week, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism released an in-depth report on the risks of campylobacter and salmonella bacterial contamination within U.S. poultry plants, citing inadequate government oversight and hygiene.
