  • Given the rapidly changing landscape of reproductive healthcare access in the United States, we’re dedicating this week’s update to supporting you, our partners, as you respond to workers’ questions about reproductive health and access. For each state represented in our Protein Processing Worker Coalition and listed below, we’ve included any statewide impact of the recent Supreme Court decision on reproductive health care access as well as any relevant resources.
  • Last week, PPP partners like CDMMigrant Clinicians NetworkNorth Carolina Justice CenterSur Legal Collaborative and El Vínculo Hispano issued statements and shared information regarding the recent Supreme Court decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and its potential impacts on the health and well being of immigrant, migrant, low-income, and other disproportionately affected communities.
  • As a reminder, getting vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 is safe at any point in pregnancy and can protect the person who is pregnant and the baby from serious, life-threatening complications related to COVID-19.

Delaware

  • Abortion is still legal in Delaware. Delaware law protects abortion access and has recently increased access to providers.
  • Both the Dover and Seaford Planned Parenthood locations in Delaware offer services in English and Spanish and can help with applications for financial assistance through state funding if a patient does not have Medicaid or insurance.

Maryland

  • Abortion is still legal in Maryland. Maryland laws protects abortion access and have recently increased access to providers and insurance coverage.
  • The Baltimore Abortion Fund provides both funding for abortion care and practical support, such as transportation and lodging, for individuals who live in or travel to Maryland for an abortion. Call their bilingual (Spanish and English) hotline at (443) 297-9893.

Virginia

  • Abortion is still legal in Virginia. However, the Governor has advocated for a ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
  • State funding for abortions may be available under certain circumstances.
  • Hampton Roads Reproductive Justice League provides both funding for abortion care and practical support, such as transportation and lodging, for people seeing abortions in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
  • Blue Ridge Abortion Fund offer grants to reduce the cost of abortion, transportation, lodging, and other abortion related expenses to Virginians or people traveling to Virginia.
  • New River Abortion Access Fund provides financial and practical support for abortion care in Southwest Virginia and Appalachia.

North Carolina

  • Abortion is still legal in North Carolina. However, some state legislators have advocated for the state’s Attorney General to enforce a currently-blocked law banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Carolina Abortion Fund operates a confidential, toll free helpline in English and Spanish that provides financial, practical, and emotional support to callers in North and South Carolina trying to access abortion care.

South Carolina

  • Abortion is currently still legal in South Carolina, but a law banning abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy will likely go into effect soon because of the Supreme Court’s recent decision.
  • Carolina Abortion Fund operates a confidential, toll free helpline in English and Spanish that provides financial, practical, and emotional support to callers in North and South Carolina trying to access abortion care.
  • Access Reproductive Care – Southeast healthline supports callers in Georgia, South Carolina, and other southern states with funding, logistical and practical support (rides, lodging, escorting) for abortion.

Georgia

  • Abortion is currently still legal in Georgia, but a law banning abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy will likely go into effect soon because of the Supreme Court’s recent decision.
  • The Access Reproductive Care – Southeast healthline supports callers in Georgia, South Carolina, and other southern states with funding, logistical and practical support (rides, lodging, escorting) for abortion.
  • Preferred Women’s Health Center of Atlanta (APWHC) offers help in finding financial assistance for abortion services to women in need.
