COVID-19 News

  • The $10 billion COVID aid bill that would provide continued funding for resources like testing, vaccination, and therapeutic treatment for COVID-19 is stalled in the U.S. Senate, as senators are holding up the bill in protest of the CDC’s decision to rescind Title 42 on May 23. Title 42 allowed officials to turn migrants away, including those seeking asylum, at land borders due to public health concerns.
  • Life expectancy in the U.S. fell for a second year in a row in 2021, reaching a 25-year low of 76.6 years. The continued decrease in life expectancy is due in part to pandemic deaths, even during a year when life saving vaccines were available. The gap between the life expectancy in the U.S. and other wealthy countries grew, likely due to lower vaccination rates in the U.S.
