COVID-19 News

  • We’re proud to join National COSH to commemorate Workers Memorial Week and remember those who lost their lives, were injured, or suffered illnesses at work. You can find more information about Workers Memorial Week and the toolkit published by National COSH here.
  • The Department of Homeland Security extended the requirement that non-U.S. travelers entering the U.S. be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a CDC-accepted vaccine series.
  • As COVID-19 cases rise in certain areas, many are wondering what to do when someone living in the same household tests positive for COVID-19. Here’s a few helpful reminders:
    • The positive household member should isolate in a separate room if possible with a window open to improve ventilation. Isolation should be at least 5 days, and day 1 is the day after the first positive test. While 5 days is the minimum, anyone who tests positive should continue isolating until they are no longer feverish or testing positive.
    • Other household members should test frequently. Rapid tests are often available at local health departments or libraries or can be mailed to you for free (up to 8 tests in total).
    • All household members should wear a mask in public for at least 10 days if someone in the household has COVID-19.
    • If a vulnerable individual lives in the same household as someone who is COVID-19 positive, that person should isolate in a different part of the house or stay with a relative or friend as long as members of the household test positive for COVID-19.
  • recent study points to the pandemic’s significant mental health impacts on Latinx adolescents, particularly those who took on additional childcare responsibilities.
  • To commemorate Earth Day, we’re sharing a new study co-authored by one of our MCN partners, Amy Liebman, that details the disproportionate impact of pesticide exposure on farmworkers, people of color, and low income communities.

Georgia

  • new analysis revealed that those who died in Georgia during the three peak months of the delta variant skewed younger than previous points in the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, 52% of those under 50 who died of COVID-19 died during that time period, compared to 26% of those over 50. Some experts attribute this disparity to lower vaccination rates among younger populations.
