COVID-19 News

  • Last week, the FDA and the CDC granted emergency use authorization for the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine to be used as a booster. This allows people 18 and up to receive a Novavax monovalent booster instead of an updated (bivalent) Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna booster if they have completed the primary series but have not previously received an mRNA COVID-19 booster.

  • According to a new CDC Vital Signs report, Black, Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) adults in the United States are more likely to be hospitalized with flu and less likely to be vaccinated against flu. Need a COVID-19 vaccine or booster or a flu shot? Visit vaccines.gov.

  • The CDC added the COVID-19 vaccine to childhood immunization schedules, strengthening guidance for healthcare professionals who can encourage caregivers to vaccinate children against COVID-19 as they promote other standard childhood vaccines. This addition to the immunization schedule does NOT require COVID-19 vaccination for school children but could influence policies at the state and local level.

Avoid Health Scares! Sol encourages everyone to get their bivalent booster before Halloween with a spooky infographic in Spanish and English. Find it here.
